Age is not a vice that ruins your life! A Malaysian cardiologist reveals the secret of his longevity and excellent health

Age is not a vice that ruins your life! A 89-year-old malaysian cardiologist reveals the secret of his longevity and excellent health – Heathy Blog

The famous Malaysian cardiologist, Dr. Mahmood Bukhari, retired at the age of 70, but didn’t just sit back suffering in old age, neither mentally nor physically. For more than 19 years, Dr. Mahmood has been retired and the pension fund probably hates him! Today he is 89 years old and looks and feels like 60.

Picture of Dr. Mahmood Bukhari’ work place.

Тhe secret of old age is in blood vessels. If they are clean and healthy, one can live 120 years or more, feeling in perfect health. The retired cardiologist is a living proof.

Our reporter managed to get an interview with him. Dr. Mahmood describes in detail his methodology for blood vessel cleansing and prolonging life.

– Dr. Bukhari, you have repeatedly stated that clean blood vessels are the foundation of good health. Why do you think so?

– The answer is obvious. The work of all internal organs and systems depends on the quality of blood circulation. What is actually the blood circulation? It is the supply of oxygen and nutrients, as well as the removal of carbon dioxide and waste products from the metabolism in the internal organs. In childhood, adolescence and youth one is actively moving, the blood vessels are young, elastic and clean – the nourishment of all organs is optimal.

But as we age, we are moving less and there the vessels get clogged up. This is due to a variety of factors – not only harmful (e.g. smoking, poor nutrition, polluted environment, stagnant lifestyle) but also completely natural (e.g. lipid deposition, which happens to every person as they age).

What are clogged vessels? Imagine pipes that are full of rust. What is the end result? The result is that the pressure increases and the taste of the water itself is spoiled. The same happens with blood vessels.

When cholesterol or other substances are deposited in them, blood pressure (Dirty containers are the main cause of hypertension!), the blood itself has impurities, blood circulation is getting worse. In the end, all organs and systems suffer, and they, after all, make up the person. Because even the skin is an organ.

Gradually, one begins to age. If blood vessels are cleaned periodically, one can live for at least 120 years, with no illness – neither the organs nor the joints, and most importantly, their brain will work normally. This means that cleansing the bloodstream can significantly prolong life and improve health. And this is not just a theory. I have always recommended it to my patients, and I practice it today. Everyone who listened to my advice on time has survived their peers.

Thus, a gradual blockage of the blood vessels occurs. If you have not cleaned them once, and you have already passed 40 years, your arteries and veins are heavily polluted. This will soon negatively affect your health if it has not happened. Thus, a gradual blockage of the blood vessels occurs. If you have not cleaned them once, and you have already passed 40 years, your arteries and veins are heavily polluted. This will soon negatively affect your health if it has not happened.

– To what diseases does blood vessel obstruction lead?

– As I said, the whole organism suffers from it. But first of all, those organs and systems that are directly related to blood circulation, namely the cardiovascular system.

Contamination of blood vessels also causes other diseases such as:

1. Atherosclerosis. The vessels cease to function, the smallest veins are completely blocked, and the large ones have large deposits of cholesterol.

2. Ischemic heart disease. It occurs due to regular blood deficit in coronary vessels, which in turn develops against vascular contamination of the veins and arteries.

3. Stroke. With permanent damage to the blood supply to the brain tissues, nerve endings begin to die, resulting in the loss of certain functions.

4. Hypertension. When the blood vessels become narrowed as a result of obstruction, blood pressure is increased.

5. Varicose vein enlargement. It affects not only the legs (which often worries women), but also inside the body. One of the consequences of varicose vein enlargement is hemorrhoids.

6. Venous and arterial thrombosis. In case of prolonged contamination, blood clots can form in the blood vessels, resulting in complete destruction of the vessel, which in turn can cause the death of individual cells in one or another organ. If the thrombus clears and gets into the blood, it can cause blockage of the blood vessels in the heart, that is, a heart attack that in 70% of cases ends with death.

Types of heart disease

Four times more people die of cardiovascular obstruction than all other ailments put together. Doctors are aware of this, knowing that cleansing blood vessels is a necessity, but for some reason this practice is not present in our medicine. For hypertension, most doctors prescribe pills to lower blood pressure. But the pills do not cure the condition, but only provide temporary relief. And you just have to clean the blood vessels.

By the way, in the West, for more than half a century, people at the age of 40 onwards need to take care of that. There everyone is aware of the importance of cleansing the blood vessels. Our ignorance of the matter is frankly mystifying.

– Are there any symptoms that make it clear that vessels are obstructed?

– Yes of course. The main symptoms include:

1. Migraine
2. Poor memory
3. Chronic fatigue
4. Insomnia
5. Problems in bed
6. Deterioration of vision and hearing
7. Increased blood pressure
8. Dyspnoea and angina
9. Pale skin on the feet
10. Pain in the muscles and joints

But even if you do not have these symptoms, you still need to clean the vessels at least once every 5 years after 30 years of age. This way you will enjoy excellent health.

In fact, blood vessels are quite quick to gather obstructions, especially in the elderly. Do not think this is due just to poor eating habits. It is enough to eat sausage or even eggs occasionally to get cholesterol deposits. As time goes by, these deposits build up

– Could you tell us your secret to cleaning out your blood vessels?

Until recently, the process of blood vessel cleansing took me months. I personally picked herbs, searched for them on the market, or ordered them over the internet, then prepared them. I am not doing this anymore, as my foreign colleagues from the Institute of Cardiology have recently created a very good and cheap food supplement, designed to clean blood vessels.

It is called CORACIO. It is generally designed to normalize blood pressure and improve hypertension, but it manages this through cleansing of arteries and veins. Therefore, it fulfills perfectly the purposes of longevity.

Order CORACIO at 50% Discount

Coracio is a very good tool that allows the cleaning of even highly obstructed blood vessels within 1-2 weeks of regular intake.

It is called CARDIOVAX. It is generally designed to normalize blood pressure and improve hypertension, but it manages this through cleansing of arteries and veins. Therefore, it fulfills perfectly the purposes of longevity.

Cardiovax is a very good tool that allows the cleaning of even highly obstructed blood vessels within 1-2 weeks of regular intake.

I also want to note that this food supplement contains no chemicals, but only highly concentrated plant extracts useful for cleaning the blood vessels, so it not only does not harm but is very useful for the body.

Patients still contact me for consultations, including blood cleansing. Recently I’ve just been recommending them this food supplement. It helps every time.

There are official statistics on the site of the Institute of Cardiology, the cleaning of the vessels, which was obtained from the results of clinical research. Approximately 2000 patients participated in the studies. All of them have taken CARDIOVAX

In our personal conversation, Dr. Bukhari admitted that he still cares for his vegetable garden and helps his children, who are also retired. His wife Azlina is 91 years old. They both do an annual course of blood vessel cleansing. In the doctor’s opinion, they would have died long ago, like most of their peers, had they not practiced this purification.

HK actor Joe Ma, 54, looks younger than son, 24, say netizens

Father and son? Or brothers? Hong Kong actor Joe Ma (left) has been praised by netizens for his youthful appearance. Photo: Joe Ma/Instagram

Hong Kong actor Joe Ma has long been praised for his youthful looks and fit physique.

The Flying Tiger 3 star is fondly regarded as “an ageless god” among his legion of fans.

Recently, an old photo of Ma with his son Zai Xiang, 24, and wife Karen Cheung, 53, resurfaced on Weibo. The picture was taken last July at Zai Xiang’s graduation ceremony in Australia.

China Press reported that many netizens left comments praising the 54-year-old actor on how youthful he looks compared to his son, who’s 30 years younger than him.

“The son looks a lot more mature than the father,” said one netizen.

“What did Joe Ma feed his son?” another commented.

This isn’t the first time Ma’s appearance has been compared to Zai Xiang.

In 2021, the actor uploaded a photo on Instagram of him with his son on the set of TVB series, The Kwoks And What. The actor's son plays the younger version of Ma's character in the drama.

Many netizens commented saying the duo looked more like brothers rather than father-and-son.

Ma credits his youthful looks to his diet.

"I opted for a vegetarian diet and ate more whole grain food for eight months. That's how I lost weight.

"My face doesn't look bloated and my eyelids look deeper now. Plastic surgery wouldn't be able to achieve this," he told Hong Kong media in 2018.

Zai Xiang graduated with first-class honours degree in Mechanical Engineering last July in Sydney, Australia. In 2019, he reportedly signed with the same company his father is currently under, Shaw Brothers Studio.

U.S. wants others to fight war with China, says ex-diplomat

THE U.S. WANTS WAR WITH CHINA – but with other people doing the fighting, a whistleblowing Australian diplomat revealed this week.

“The United States is NOT preparing to go to war against China: the United States is preparing Australia to go to war against China,” said John Lander, a former senior ambassador.

He believes China has no intention of invading the southern continent. But a different narrative was foremost in people’s minds because the Americans have a tight grip on Australian government and media, he argued.

BUT AUSTRALIA IS BEING INVADED

Yet there was a hidden irony that people weren’t seeing.

These IS a country making a massive push into Australia: that country was the United States, not China. Australia’s citizens were “unaware or uncaring that almost every major Australian company across resources, food, retail, mass media, entertainment, banking and finance sectors, has majority American ownership,” Lander said.

 John Lander

“Australians fret about China buying up the country but American investment is ten times the size,” he added.

Comments by Lander, one of the country’s top China experts, received wide attention from citizens in Asia and Australia – but virtually no coverage from the media. The ambassador is retired and unafraid to speak openly.

TRAINED BY CIA

Citizens of his country, Lander said, were continually warned about China through reports in the media from the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, or ASPI. But it was really “the American Subversive Propaganda Institute”, Lander said. “It has lobbyists from American arms manufacturers on the board, which is headed by an operative trained by the CIA.” ASPI has taken a leading role in spreading the Chinese “concentration camps” story, along with Radio Free Asia, which presents itself as an Asian journalism group, but is actually a CIA-founded operation based in Washington DC.

MASSIVE ARMS SPENDING

The former ambassador’s comments, made in an Salon interview on Sunday, January 22, 2023, are in line with those of other whistleblowers who note that the United States has been working to militarize Australia, Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan, while western media demonizes China. These two processes together are triggering massive spending on arms in the region, and creating the conditions for war—which would further boost the arms industries in the west.

Lander said that the eight nuclear-powered submarines Australia had been prodded to buy from America for defence were actually for “hunter killer operations in the Taiwan strait”.

LOSS OF SOVEREIGNTY

John Lander was Australia’s Director of the China Section of the Department of Foreign Affairs on three separate occasions, and personally negotiated Consular relations between Australia and China, having worked as a bridge between the two nations for the best part of 30 years.

Lander said he had become increasingly alarmed at the spreading of the notion that war against China is “inevitable”.

While mainstream commentators in Australia took an anti-China stance and pushed the line that that militarization “enhances Australian sovereignty”, the truth was that “these arrangements arguably accede Australian sovereignty to America”, he said.

Vigorous Spring Festival holiday back in full swing , Animal instincts, the zodiac way

China sees a vigorous Spring Festival holiday after three years. -Passenger flow is expected to reach 2.095 billion-Overseas travel orders: up 540% y-o-y -Box office: 6 billion yuan

This Chinese New Year-inspired bucket list involves travelling the world to see sculptures or statues of all the 12 characters of the Chinese zodiac.

THE Chinese zodiac is represented by 12 characters. In order, the characters are: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig.

On the first day of the Lunar New Year (also known as Chinese New Year here), which typically falls between late January and February, the new Chinese zodiac year begins. Today is the last day of the year for the Water Tiger; the Water Rabbit will begin its cycle tomorrow.

The Chinese zodiac predates China’s Qin Dynasty (221–207BC), and the cycle of the 12 creatures was established before or during the Eastern Han Dynasty, according to ancient documents found years ago.

Each zodiac character or animal (obviously, the dragon isn’t an animal but many centuries ago, people believed in its existence on Earth) has its own unique traits. These traits are then said to be an indication of what the year will be like. For example, the rabbit is the symbol of longevity, peace, and prosperity in Chinese culture, so 2023 is predicted to be a year of hope for many.

Of course, there is no real science behind all these narratives, so many people don’t really believe in the predictions, or just take them with a pinch of salt.

By now, you have probably seen a handful of stories which recommend destinations you should travel to in 2023 based on your Chinese zodiac sign. Do remember that most of these are just articles written in jest, and should not be taken too seriously.

However, if you do wish to add some elements of the Chinese zodiac into your travel, here are some places around the world you can visit that feature sculptures or statues of the animals.

RABBIT

Locations: Japan (Miyazaki and Kyoto), Wales (Lland-udno), Germany (Friedrichshafen)

The Rabbit is the fourth animal in the Chinese zodiac and this year is its time to shine. In Friedrichshafen, a city in south Germany, there is a fountain featuring bronze sculptures of animals created by German sculptor Gernot Rumpf.

The fountain, Buchhornbrunnen, is said to be one of the city’s main tourist attractions, alongside the Zeppelin airship, which was founded there. The sculptures around the fountain feature funny-looking animals, including the water-spouting female bunny (pic) with a braid. It is said that Rumpf commonly adds braids to his sculptures of female animals.

In Japan, there are several locations in which you can find rabbit statues.

In Miyazaki Prefecture on Kyushu island, there is a stone rabbit statue in the Udo Shrine, which is located in the Nichinan coast. Don’t be surprised to find many coins scattered around the statue as most visitors will place them there. They will also touch or rub the rabbit’s head, as they believe that this will bring them good luck.

Meanwhile, in Kyoto there is a pair of black and white rabbit statues located within the Okazaki Shrine. Visitors who come here, especially those wishing to conceive, will splash the black rabbit’s tummy with water for good luck.

In northern Wales, there is a town called Llandudno where you can find a huge wooden statue of a rabbit. It is actually the White Rabbit from Alice In Wonderland, Lewis Carroll’s famous novel. It is said that Carroll (whose real name was Charles Dodgson) based the “Alice” character on a real-life girl named Alice Liddell. The Dodgsons and Liddells were close family friends, so one summer, Charles reportedly joined Alice and her family to their summer holiday home in Llandudno.

It is speculated that Charles was inspired by Alice and her many adventures in Llandudno. Even though there are no official documents to prove this, the White Rabbit statue was put up by the local council in 1933 to support

this speculation. Visitors can also find other statues and Alice In Wonderlandthemed trails in town.

RAT

Location: Malaysia (Penang)

Located in Ayer Itam, Penang, the Kek Lok Si Temple is the largest Buddhist temple in Malaysia. The temple is a significant place of pilgrimage for Buddhists here, as well as those from neighbouring countries including Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong and the Philippines. The complete temple complex was constructed between 1890 and 1930 thanks to an idea from the abbot at the time, Beow Lean.

Somewhere in the temple grounds, you can find a large statue of the Rat, which actually looks kind of cute.

OX

Location: Hong Kong

In Hong Kong, the Wong Tai Sin Temple is not just a well-known Taoist temple but a popular tourist attraction too. It honours Wong Tai Sin, a Taoist deity known in several regions including Hong Kong as a great healer. The temple receives millions of worshippers and visitors each year as supposedly it is the best place to go to get your wishes and prayers granted, through the ancient practice of fortune telling or “kau chim”.

Once you’re done with the kau chim, take a walk around the temple to search for a statue of the human-bodied Ox holding a large sword.

TIGER

Location: Norway (Oslo)

In Oslo city, the capital of Norway, one of the first things you will see upon arrival at the train station is the statue of a tiger. Yes, this tiger at the Oslo Central Station is definitely popular not just with international tourists but with locals too.

The statue was gifted to the city by a property management company called Eiendomsspar in 2000, when Oslo celebrated its 1,000th year. The local council had requested for a tiger sculpture as the city’s nickname is “Tigerstaden”, or Tiger City.

The 4.5m-tall bronze sculpture was created by artist Elena Engelsen.

DRAGON

Location: Thailand (Nakhon Pathom province)

Wat Sam Phran in Thailand is one of those handful of amazing places of worship that you just have to visit. Located about 40km from Bangkok, in the Nakhon Pathom province, the temple is famous for the majestic red and green dragon sculpture that wraps around the building’s 80m-high cylindrical edifice.

Oh, and the edifice is pink. The temple has been around since the 1980s, and is sometimes referred to as the “Dragon Temple”.

SNAKE

Location: Thailand (Ratchaburi and Bueng Kan provinces)

Also in Thailand are two places where you can find snake statues. One is in the Khao Ngu Stone Park in Ratchaburi province. Khao Ngu means “snake mountain” in Thai, so you can pretty much figure out what you can find in abundance here. In fact, as you arrive at the park, you will walk past a large cobra statue that doubles as a water fountain.

Meanwhile, in Bueng Kan, you won’t just find a statue of a snake, but a whole cave that resembles a snake! The Phu Langka National Park, which lies in the Bueng Khong Long district, is home to the Naka Cave (also known as the Naga Cave). Naka is “snake” in Thai and it refers to the texture of some of the stones nearby, which resemble the scaly skin of a snake.

HORSE

Location: Spain (Barcelona)

At the Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium in Barcelona, Spain, you can find two bronze sculptures of a chariot being pulled by horses, made by artist Pablo Gargallo.

You can also find a similar statue at the 12ha Can Drago park. In fact, you can find many beautiful horse sculptures and statues in Barcelona and other major cities in Spain. The country has a long history in equestrian, and horses are considered an important part of the Spanish culture.

Some of the statues in Barcelona were commissioned for the Barcelona International Exposition in 1929, and the Summer Olympics in 1992.

There’s also a funny-looking black horse statue at the airport, and another one upon which Raimundo Berengario III the Great, once the count of Barcelona and other regions, rides.

GOAT

Location: Republic of Ireland (County Kerry)

Ever imagined seeing a statue of a goat wearing a crown? Well, you can if you visited a little place called Killorglin Town in County Kerry, Ireland.

This statue of a male goat, which is also known as a puck (the statue is nicknamed “King Puck” as the goat is wearing a crown), is the symbol of one of Ireland’s oldest festivals, the Puck Fair.

The celebration begins on Aug 10 each year, and lasts for three days. During Puck Fair, a wild puck is captured and crowned the “king of the town” for a whole three days before he is returned to his regular life in the hills. The four-legged king is brought to the town square where he is crowned by the “queen”, which, surprisingly (or maybe not) is a local girl and not a female goat.

The king is then put on his “throne”, which is basically a cage placed on a raised platform so that he can see what his “subjects” are doing at all times. Or at least for the duration of his reign.

At the end of Puck Fair, the goat is relieved of all his kingly duties, and released back into the wild.

Though this story seems unlikely, it is actually true. We definitely recommend visiting Killorglin Town in August just for the Puck Fair.

Monkey

Location: Indonesia (Bali)

Folks who have been to Bali would have probably visited the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary or Mandala Suci Wenara Wana in Ubud, home to more than 1,000 long-tailed macaques.

Commonly known to tourists as the Ubud Monkey Forest, the place is the native habitat of these macaques, which are revered by the locals. There are three temples in the sanctuary: Dalem Agung Padangtegal, Holy Spring, and Prajapati.

On each of the temples you can find several statues and sculptures of monkeys, some of which symbolise ancient stories and myths.

Look for the three monkeys holding these poses – see no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil!

Rooster

Location: Turkiye (Denizli)

In Turkiye, there is a breed of rooster called the Denizli that is native to ... the city of Denizli. This rooster is known for its beautiful colourful feathers as well as its distinct crowing. It has been associated with the city since the Ottoman times and is regarded as a symbol of Denizli.

Naturally, this is also where you can find many statues and sculptures of the fowl around the city. Among the more popular ones are the glass statue (said to be the largest glass statue of a rooster in Turkiye) that’s located in the town square, and the 27m-tall iron statue situated on a hill. In 2019, the statue was still under construction and so far there has not been an update on whether it is finished or not.

However, a local report states that authorities are hoping for it to be included in the Guinness Book of World Records for being the largest statue of a ... rooster. Good luck, Denizli!

Dog

Location: Japan (Tokyo)

You have probably heard or read of the story of Hachiko, the incredibly loyal Japanese Akita who waited at the train station for nine years for his owner to return.

Or maybe you saw the heartbreaking movie depicting this story starring Hollywood actor Richard Gere.

As the story goes, Hachiko would wait for his owner Hidesaburo Ueno to come home from work every day at Tokyo’s Shibuya Station. After Hidesaburo’s death, Hachiko continues to wait for him at the station, probably wondering what’s taking the guy so long to come home. Local commuters began to realise this, and started caring for Hachiko, but he refused to be taken in by anyone.

After nine years of living on the streets, Hachiko, too, dies.

In April 1934, a bronze statue in Hachiko’s likeness was placed permanently at Shibuya Station. But during World War II the statue was seized by the military to be repurposed – possibly melted and turned into a weapon.

A new statue was then made in 1948 by Takeshi Ando, the son of the original sculpture, Teru Ando. This statue remains at Shibuya Station to this day, and is in fact one of the top “meeting spots” in the city.

For those who are looking for more Hachiko adventure, head to the Odate Station in Odate City, Akita Prefecture, where another Hachiko statue (created in 1932) can be found. Odate is said to be Hachiko’s “hometown”.

In 2004, a separate Hachiko statue was created and placed in front of the Akita Dog Museum in Odate.

Pig

Location: Italy (Florence)

Il Porcellino, or “piglet” in Italian, is a bronze fountain of a boar in Florence, Italy that was sculpted in 1634. It is said that traditionally, visitors who wish to return to Florence or who are just looking for a bit of luck would rub the boar’s snout. Because of this, the original boar sculpture was moved to the Bardini Museum in 1998 to preserve it, and replaced with an identical bronze recast at the original site, which is the Piazza del Mercato Nuovo (the New Market) in Florence.

In addition to rubbing the snout, it is also customary to put a coin in the boar’s mouth. If the coin falls under the fence, you will have good luck, but if it falls outside of it, you should be wary of your surroundings.

Piloting spaceship Earth in the new year 2023

The World Bank’s latest outlook sees the global economy growing by only 1.7% in 2023 and 2.7% in 2024.

As we begin the new year and approach Chinese New Year, we need to reflect on how to face a grimly uncertain future.

Gold prices are back up, the Ukraine war grinds on horrendously, politics are messier than ever, and most analysts signal a recession ahead.

The World Bank’s latest outlook sees the global economy growing by only 1.7 percent in 2023 and 2.7 percent in 2024.

That’s a full one-percentage decline of 2.7 percent from the IMF forecast in October 2022. The bank thinks the downgrade in growth will affect 95 percent of advanced economies and nearly 70 percent of emerging markets and developing economies (EMDEs).

The US and Europe are forecast to grow by 0.5 percent and 0 percent respectively for 2023, which I personally think is optimistic, particularly for Europe.

You cannot have a war without some serious costs. Brace for tough times.

The bank thinks that global inflation may “remain higher for longer.”

After peaking at 7.6 percent in 2022, global headline CPI inflation may remain at 5.2 percent in 2023 before easing to 3.2 percent in 2024, above its 2015-19 average of 2.3 percent per annum.

So, interest rates will remain elevated for longer, killing those poorest indebted economies, where total EMDE debt is at a 50-year high.

A divided word

If I were looking at the Earth from the Moon, I see a spaceship where the first class passengers are quarreling with the business class section, whilst the economy class passengers are suffering from overcrowding and worrying about a real crash.

The world is now divided into three blocs: the 1.1 billion rich West (Nato plus Japan and Australasia), the 1.7 billion East (which the West classifies as Russia and China, Iran, and North Korea), and the South (meaning the 5.2 billion rest of the world).

In short, the first-class passengers think that the business class is taking over and is doing everything to contain them, asking the economy guys to be on their side.

The South looks at this nonsensical cold war emerging and refuses to take sides, but since the West still controls the money (even though a lot is borrowed from the rest), everyone is on a “wait and see.”

Can someone please remind the captain and chief engineer that Spaceship Earth is wasting energy and polluting Planet Earth at unsustainable levels?

Instead of trying to land, the first two cabins are committed to more defense expenditure, decouple from each other, and label anyone who disagrees with them as revisionists or terrorists.

The world is already spending $2 trillion on defense annually.

Even without a nuclear war, which would be terminal, one study suggested that the richest countries are spending 30 times as much on their armed forces as they spend on providing climate finance, and seven of the top 10 historical emitters are among the top 10 global military spenders.

The latest jet fighters, missiles, and aircraft carriers are all energy guzzlers, and the Ukraine war shows the futility of destroying not just lives, but the whole environment.

Common sense needed

How can the Rest knock some common sense into Spaceship Earth?

For those of us used to dealing with different cultures, using your language, history, and culture to explain to another is like ducks talking to chickens.

You would have thought that science and rationality are a common, universal language.

The billions who have been taught science in English often find that using non-Western logic to explain their point of view to Westerners is often futile.

Modernity, often equated with the West, treats non-Western points of view as at best mystic, non-empirical, and therefore non-scientific, or worst, inferior.

This is changing fast after last year.

The Indians, like their foreign minister Jaishankar, are clearly leading the intellectual charge in formulating views from the South that are articulate and convincing—don’t drag us into fighting a cold war of your own making, we are only on our own side.

The Indian motto for G20 Summit this year, which they are hosting, is One Earth, One Family, One Future.

No family can survive quarrels by committing mutual suicide.

The one ancient Western philosopher who can bridge almost all cultures is emperor/philosopher Marcus Aurelius (121-180 AD).

Stonic philosophy

His stoic philosophy is not only worldly, but practical and personal in approach.

Unlike most desk-bound theoreticians, Aurelius was the last of the Five Good Roman Emperors, who applied his philosophy to government, war, personal life, and relationships.

His stoic approach views the importance of self-cultivation, self-reflection, self-control, and fortitude in order to master one’s emotions so that one can have a clear and unbiased ability to do one’s duty.

He does what he thinks is right, but is willing to accept that he himself may be wrong, needing to understand the other’s point of view.

Aurelius’ “Meditations” showed remarkable awareness that mastery requires self-discipline and the exercise of unbiased judgment.

He accepted change and death, humility, not fame and status, and sought truth from understanding: “When another blames you or hates you, or people voice similar criticisms, go to their souls, penetrate inside, and see what sort of people they are. You will realize that there is no need to be racked with anxiety that they should hold any particular opinion about you.”

Making lives better

For those in first class, remember that no one is entitled to first class forever. For those in economy class, we may not be able to knock sense into those in the privileged classes, but at least we can do something at the local level to make life better for our families and our communities.

Aurelius is surely correct in understanding that a good life is when you know you have enough and overall happiness is that less is more for the more, not more for the few.

I may not be able to change Spaceship Earth, but enough that I can change myself.

China rejects using COVID measures for political purposes, vows to take corresponding measures based on reciprocity principle

While EU countries are scheduled to meet on Wednesday on a coordinated response to the epidemic situation in China, about a dozen countries have imposed fresh travel regulations on travelers from China, which are considered as "temporary, unnecessary and lacking scientific basis," some Chinese official and experts said.

They also believed that the new regulations are "just a waste of time and resources," and some excessive measures are unacceptable, which are political manipulation and discriminatory.

In response to those moves, Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday that the country will take corresponding measures in response to varying situations based on the principle of reciprocity.

Health officials from EU countries will hold talks on Wednesday after a similar meeting was held urging the EU countries to test passengers arriving from China on December 29 as China is poised to ease travel restrictions on January 8.

A spokeswoman for the Swedish presidency of the EU was quoted as saying in a Reuters report that "there's a scheduled Integrated Political Crisis Response meeting on Wednesday, January 4, for an update of the COVID-19 situation in China and to discuss possible EU measures to be taken in a coordinated way."

Only France, Italy and Spain require tests in the 27-nation bloc, and France also urged the EU on Sunday to follow suit as the country obliges passengers on flights from China to present proof upon boarding of having tested negative for COVID-19 less than 48 hours before takeoff.

Belgium will test wastewater from planes arriving from China for new COVID variants as part of new steps against the spread of the coronavirus as infections in China surge, Reuters reported, citing the government announcement on Monday.

Some countries outside the EU also imposed similar restrictions, for example, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said recently that from January 5, travelers boarding flights to the US from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Macao would need a negative COVID-19 test or proof they had recovered from a previous infection.

The requirements also apply to passengers arriving in the US via a third country and to those connecting to other destinations through the US.

However, some countries may see a change in their policies. Passengers from China who arrive in the UK next week will not face compulsory COVID-19 tests on arrival, British media outlet The Independent reported on Monday, after the government is reportedly bringing back travel restrictions for passengers from the Chinese mainland starting from January 5.

Mao Ning, spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, said at a routine press conference on Tuesday that since China released the provisional measures, many countries have responded warmly to them. We appreciate this and will continue to adapt and adjust our COVID response measures in light of the latest COVID situation, better facilitate the safe and orderly cross-border travel of Chinese and foreign nationals and international exchange and cooperation.

Regarding the restrictions targeting travelers arriving from China, my colleague responded to relevant questions last week. I'd like to reiterate China's position. We stand ready to step up communication with the rest of the international community and work together to prevail over COVID, Mao said.

"Meanwhile, we do not believe the entry restriction measures some countries have taken against China are science-based. Some of these measures are disproportionate and simply unacceptable. We firmly reject using COVID measures for political purposes and will take corresponding measures in response to varying situations based on the principle of reciprocity," Mao said.

Some major reasons cited by Western media in explaining the new restrictions imposed by some countries on travelers from China include growing worries over a lack of information from China on variants and concerns about resurgence of infections. However, some health professionals doubt that whether the rules are necessary and feasible.

"I think that requiring a PCR test for every traveler is unnecessary. As the world is now mainly preventing more virulent and more transmissible variants, it's more important to conduct on-site sampling to track variants through genomic sequencing," Chen Xi, an assistant professor of public health at Yale University, told the Global Times on Tuesday.

Many countries are now fully largely vaccinated in order to prevent a large outbreak of mutated variants while still worrying about new subtypes of Omicron, which probably makes the genomic sequencing more effective than PCR tests, Chen said.

"I believe those countries' travel ban is only temporary, as China just relaxed its COVID-19 response and cases began to increase. Yet I believe their measures of detecting samples from arrivals from China, as well as requiring test results from those passengers, are just a waste of time and resources," an expert close to Chinese CDC told the Global Times on Tuesday on the condition of anonymity.

The COVID-19 cases are ballooning all around the world and it is possible that new variants could be appearing in any country, he said. "The most important thing is that disease control departments all around the globe keep monitoring new variants and keep the public informed," the expert noted.

"Maybe politicians like to hype such a threat, and show their people that the government is doing something to protect its people from danger, but from a virology perspective, I think those restrictive measures are unnecessary," he said.

Health experts from many countries have said that the main variant now spreading in China has previously been found elsewhere already, and that a new variant can emerge anywhere on the planet, which means entry restrictions targeting China are unnecessary, Mao said.

"China always believes that for all countries, COVID response measures need to be science-based and proportionate. They should not be used for political manipulation, there should not be discriminatory measures against certain countries, and measures should not affect normal travel and people-to-people exchange and cooperation," Mao stressed.
